Lent, Easter, and suddenly it’s summer, well at least school‘s out and the calendar is suggesting it. Now if the weather would cooperate, we would actually feel more like summer. (We’ll complain about the heat later).
Although Sunday School is over for the summer, we still have “kid’s time” and special activities throughout the summer season. Soon VBS will be upon us, remember the dates and volunteer to help, July 17-21.
While vacations are a chance to be refreshed in body and spirit, we need to stay connected to our church and our faith family. Encouraging each other to grow in faithfulness and sharing our stories are essential to the continuing testament that is so much a part of St. John’s UCC Harmony.
This is a great time to enjoy the church setting and perhaps contribute to the care of this awesome legacy. We are indeed blessed to have this sacred space. What an opportunity to share in fun and fellowship as we truly enjoy this great gift.
May I encourage all of us to find time to unplug from the wired and wireless world in which we live and quietly seek God’s presence. Too often we are so busy and buffeted by the demands on our time that we fail to enjoy the beauty of God’s Creation all around us. Our earbuds and devices keep us from hearing the birds sing or simply listening to the sounds of nature.
Let’s also take a time to acknowledge the freedoms we enjoy and the price that has been and continues to be paid for us to enjoy them. Thank our veterans for their service in making and keeping America free, and thank God for his son, Jesus, whose sacrifice frees us from our sins. Enjoy the summer months ahead!
